Italian Citizenship

The recognition of Italian citizenship can be obtained through a judicial process, in which an Italian judge reviews the documentation and grants recognition of citizenship. The court then orders the “Stato Civile” office to transcribe the foreign documents and issue Italian documents for those with a direct Italian ancestor.

These judicial proceedings apply only to citizenship by descent (iure sanguinis).
